To the Max

I am so glad that maxi skirts are having a comeback. I always feel so elegant and stylish when I wear one. The key to nailing this look is to make sure your figure isn’t swallowed by all that fabric. I like to add a belt to emphasize my waist or wear a top that shows a little more skin, such as a cute tank. I also usually wear wedges to give me extra height and drama.

This nude maxi skirt is definitely a wardrobe staple. (And we all know how much I love nude.) Worn with a matching neutral top it looks like a dress!

This amazing ruffle maxi skirt would require a special occasion to wear, unless you are incredibly fabulous and can pull of amazing clothes for everyday wear. I love the denim button down with it because it dresses it down, and the textures contrast very well.

I found this last skirt on my good friend Jennifer this weekend and immediately fell in love. She paired it with a nautical striped shirt and adorable ballerina bun, which I can never seem to get to work. You can find it at Dillards.

How awesome is this outfit?

Lip Service

I’m been loving the recent lipstick revival. I became disenchanted with lipgloss after one too many hair-in-the-lipgloss incidents, so I had just been sticking to Burt’s Bees. But after seeing all fun lipstick shades on the runways, I decided to give it a try. Here are my top three favorite lipstick trends.

1. Nudes: You really can’t go wrong with a great nude or neutral lipstick. It works for every skin tone, as long as you pick the right shade and make sure it has a little shine. (You don’t want to look like you’re dead.) I found two great examples, one a true nude color and the second a pretty neutral pink.

2. Bright fuschia: I love this bright shade in both regular and matte form. It’s a great way to make your makeup pop. Just make sure to keep the rest of your face neutral so it doesn’t compete with your statement lips.

3. Red matte: As I mentioned in an earlier post, I had been dying to try out this trend for a while. A red lip is such a classic, sexy look. The matte version comes off so polished, yet modern. I recommend the Sonia Kashuk version from Target, since it is an inexpensive way to experiment with this look.

No, I do not mean that I want to be naked. I just love clothes, shoes, bag, etc. in beautiful nude and neutral colors. They always look so polished and are easy to accessorize with fun jewelery and accessories. Here are some of my favorite examples.

This gorgeous dress by Lela Rose is definitely a splurge piece, but would be a great wardrobe addition since it is so versatile. It could be worn to work with a cardigan or blazer, or out on the town with fun jewelry and statement heels.

I believe that nude shoes should be a staple of every woman’s wardrobe, whether they be pumps, flats, or wedges, like these adorable ones from Anthropologie. I love the great cut-outs. They’re also affordable at $55.95!

This fun party dress is great because it offers endless accessorizing opportunities. With a great neutral color and gorgeous draping, you could add various necklaces, belts, cuff bracelets, shoes, etc. It would definitely be a dress you wore on multiple occasions! I’m imagining it with a bright turquoise belt and turquoise and gold cuff bracelet. It’s also a steal at 45 pounds (I don’t know the exchange rate or I’d convert it).

I couldn’t have a post about nudes without including nail polish. I love rocking bright shades on my nails, but like many others, I hate how chipped nail polish looks. Nude nail polish is perfect because the chips are less obvious. I also feel more professional and sophisticated at work with neutral nails. You can’t go wrong with this OPI shade called So Many Clowns.. So Little Time. (I always love their nail polish names. So creative!)
